When a case is reported to the Medical Examiner’s Office, a medicolegal death investigator will gather information regarding the circumstances surrounding a death in order to determine whether a case falls under the jurisdiction of the Medical Examiner’s Office. Depending on the information received, a case can be accepted, transferred to another jurisdiction, or released.
Please keep in mind that these numbers are “Suspected” and will change as more information about the cases become available. Finalized numbers and statistics will be available in the annual report.
The first week and last week may have more or less deaths due to having more or less days than 7.
Because many deaths by suicide require investigation follow-up and toxicology testing, there will be a delay in finalizing the cause and manner of death. The number of deaths for 2021 would therefore be considered incomplete at this time. Finalized numbers and statistics will be available in the annual report.
